Come visit the small, quaint South Texas community of Luna City - where half the town shares the surname of Gonzales or Gonzalez and they're all related, where the small cafe is run by a fugitive celebrity chef who came to town by accident and decided to stay, and the last holdouts of a hippie commune still keep the faith. Then there is the rumor of buried treasure - a fortune in gold hidden around the turn of the last century ... and then there is the movie production come to town to shoot a movie which may be a perfectly straightforward epic about Sam Houston ... or maybe it's really all about zombies. What happens when the citizens of Luna City collide with those of Hollywood? Find out in this sequel to The Chronicles of Luna City.
The Second Chronicle of Luna City Celia Hayes Jeanne Hayden Books
The stories of Luna City continue in this well-written sequel. Basically, if you enjoyed the first book, you'll enjoy this one too. The plot centers around a film shoot in the area, anchored by an old "frenemy" of Rich Hall. You may remember his character from the first book: the British celebrity chef who found himself in Luna City after a serious bender and nervous breakdown triggered by a disastrous restaurant opening. All he wants is to be left alone to run the Luna City cafe, but life is never that easy.If there is a central character to the Chronicles, Rich is it. It's nice to see his relationships with the locals become stronger over the course of the book. There's a nice scene where he winds up hosting a mini-potluck at his trailer, after a long day at work. Although at first all he wants is to relax and be left alone, he gradually realizes that he's enjoying himself and that he's been accepted as one of the boys. He also finds himself attracted to one of the many members of the Gonzales clan, although this plot thread is left for the next book in the series.
He's then pulled into helping investigate the film's script to try to find what the locals have really let themselves in for... and it's great fun. Recommended.

The Second Chronicle of Luna City Celia Hayes Jeanne Hayden Books Reviews
More small town fun and weirdness in the way only small towns can get away with.
Funny portrayal of small-town life, I eagerly await the next installment.
Fun to read series...can't wait to read the next book
Celia Hayes' Luna City series continues with a glorious romp. She has the feeling of South Texas just right, as she brings in the characters and "celebrities" who play pivotal roles in the extraordinary life of this community. I really enjoyed the first book. This one has topped it! As we range through the character's memories of their lives to see the background of the connections that forge the community, you can see somewhat into the future of the friendships developing before your eyes. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series!
This a great sequel to the first volume of Luna City lunacy. Both books are a lighthearted look at life in small town Texas and while there probably isn't quite as many laugh out loud moments in this volume there is plenty of amusing moments and the characters are just as well rounded.
I loved the first volume and this is a great follow up. It probably doesn't stand well as a stand alone book but that's really my only criticism. Oh and I'd like the next volume too because this volume too ends up with a bit of a cliff hanger. Having said that, there's plenty of loose ends tied up so I can wait if I have to.
The 2nd of (soon to be) 6 installments. Until a omnibus edition is out, the series is best read as a binge of the sequential novels. There is a gentle story arc in the maturation of the lead character, and as his self-centeredness ebbs and his awareness widens, new (to him) characters come into importance. Pay attention! Although there is not a quiz later, the bit player in an early scene can take on more importance in later chapters, or later novels.
It is best to regard the series as an extended work. Individual "chronicles", by design, build to a point where it's uncomfortable to stop reading. So, don't stop.
